WCM, WCL, or
ISO? I'm working in a group which has WCM (World Class Manufacture) as a way to
continuous improvement. Few months ago we were certificated in ISO 9001 too.
But what is better? What is more important to the company? People know about
several tools of Quality and Productivity as TQC, ISO, WCM, PDCA, Lean,
SixSigma, etc. What we must use in our company? It depends. WCM for example is
focused in operations processes with floor factory vision. It doesn’t consider
system management. Mr. Yamashima, creator of WCM, is from operations, from
factory. Iso is, now a days, the mainly tool to involve the company as a system.
The others only see productivity, reduce of waste, reduce non conformities and
ISO is that see the processes including administrative processes as a system.
The problem is that, many companies have looking for ISO only as a commercial
certificate and not a tool to improve the full organization. Let’s get the ISO
to continuous improvement, to have a systemic vision involving each process and
not only the manufacturing process. The Japanese professionals have a great
experience with productivity and some quality by Toyota Production System and, because
this, they don't like very much the ISO, but is very important to us use both
philosophies. ISO must not be only a certificate, but an important toll to have
a better organization.
